(Toronto, ON) – A new Liaison Strategies poll for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) finds Olivia Chow increasing her lead while Mark Saunders and Josh Matlow battle it out for second place.

The poll finds 32% of Toronto voters are undecided - a new low and a drop of 13 points from a month ago.

Conducted from May 5-6, 2023, with interactive voice response, the poll of 1,257 Toronto voters has a margin of error of +/- 2.76%, 19 times out of 20.

“Olivia Chow is up one point in this week's survey among decided voters” said David Valentin, Principal of Liaison Strategies. "But she has grown her lead from 6 points to 11 points this week because her opposition is fragmented. Among decided voters Chow leads with 27% followed by Saunders and Matlow tied for second at 16% each."

The Liaison Survey found among all voters including those undecided (change from last week):

32% Undecided (-7)
18% Chow (+2)
11% Matlow (-1)
11% Saunders (no change)
8% Bradford (+2)
7% Hunter (+1)
6% Bailao (+2)
5% Someone Else (+2)
1% Furey (-1)
0% Perruzza (no change)

Among Decided Voters Only (change from last week):

27% Chow (+1)
16% Matlow (-3)
16% Saunders (-4)
12% Bradford (+2)
10% Hunter (no change)
9% Bailao (+2)
7% Someone Else (+2)
2% Furey (no change)
0% Perruzza (-1)

“There is still a lot of campaigning still to go and debates have not yet begun but so far the trend line has been positive for Chow's campaign. With turnout a question mark and so many candidates in the race it's very possible Toronto's next mayor will be elected with a relatively small number of votes," concluded Valentin.
