Airport reception

Apart from the organized trips, we will give you information on the many attractions and activities which you can visit on your own. Montreal is also famous for its restaurants and nightlife. To see what Montreal has to offer, visit the Montreal Attractions page.
Arriving at an airport in a foreign city can be a daunting experience. We can therefore arrange for you to be met and taken to your local family residence, hotel or apartment. If you would like this service, you can indicate it on your registration form. The charge for this is on the Fee Structure list.

What is the International students program?
|
The International Students Program is designed for anyone over the age of 17 (21 for business courses) who wants to immerse him/herself in English, French for one week to six months. This program is ideal for someone who wants a short refreshing break or who wants to concentrate on a particular topic. It is equally suitable for someone who wants to spend a longer period of time becoming completely confident in the language and substantially raising their language level .
From the very first day of class, you will be speaking in the language you have chosen to study. Throughout the course, and according to your specific needs, you will practice four communication skills:
- Oral comprehension
- Written comprehension
- Oral expression
- Written expression
Students are pre-tested by a computer test on registration, and tested more thoroughly on arrival, to establish their needs and ensure that they are taught at the right level.
As an international student, you will also receive a practical guide to Montreal that will make your stay in the city more enjoyable. Later, we will show you some of Montreal's most important and interesting landmarks.

Real beginning
|
This course is for people who have never been exposed to the English Language. It has a special approach to eliminate the fear of the unknown, and familiarize the student with basic vocabulary. Less complex pieces of language for listening and reading comprehension are introduced to the participant, and the general characteristics of the language are taught so that he or she can move with confidence to the next level. The student is also trained in the basics of English pronunciation. This course can be taken as an entry to the standard course.
- Level: Complete beginner
- Duration: 2 weeks, as an introduction to a longer course.

Business writing
|
Whatever your level of the spoken language, writing it is a different matter requiring special skills. In this course you will look at different styles of writing and their uses, expressing yourself clearly and accurately, organizing your work logically and producing documents which are easy to follow and achieve the desired results. You will work on a variety of documents including letters, memos, reports and e-mails.
This course can be combined with the oral course, or added as a module to longer courses.
- Level: Advanced
- Duration: 1 week as an addition to the Business English course
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Requirement: Liaison Placement Test

One-to-one training
|
Do you have special requirements? Do you require individual attention? Are you short of time and want to concentrate intensively with your teacher assistance? Or do you want to combine improving your language skills with exploring the delights of Montreal and its environment, or skiing, sailing or improving your golf? Whatever your reason, one-to-one training gives you the advantage of having your training and leisure time activities tailored to your needs. Why not combine your training with taking in one of Montreal's festivals (Jazz? Just for Laughs?) or spending your afternoons or weekends on the ski slope?

The Art of Presentation
|
A well-constructed and delivered presentation can swing decisions, make sales, win promotions. On this course you will practice structuring your presentation logically and effectively, choosing language for clarity and impact, developing visuals to reinforce and underline your message, and delivering your message with conviction. You will learn to overcome nerves and speak with confidence.
This course can be added onto a Business English course.
- Level: Advanced
- Duration: 20 hours as an addition to a Business English Course
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Requirement: Liaison Placement Test

Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language
|
This is a two week, intensive course for those interested in becoming teachers of English as a Foreign language. This course empowers future teachers of English as a Foreign language to:
- Investigate and develop new teaching techniques and methodologies;
- Upgrade their own language skills;
- Become more aware of other cultures and ideologies;
- Learn from other teachers;
- Explore other classroom situations;
- Develop actual lesson plans;
- Develop new classroom quizzes, games and learning activities.
The latest audio-visual approaches such as presentation software, computer assisted graphics, scenario-based training, resources on the Internet will be covered on the course.

Qualifications/certification
|
Students completing a course will be issued with a certificate of attendance stating their final level. TOEIC tests can be arranged where required for an additional fee.

Accommodation
|
If you want to immerse yourself in another language and enjoy a truly Canadian experience, you will want to choose to stay with a local a family. Using the information you give on your accommodation application form, Liaison will find the most suitable family for you. You will not only live with them - in your own room, of course - and take your breakfast and evening meal with them, but they will talk to you and give you the opportunity to practice your new language with them. Many close friendships have developed from such homestay experiences.
If you prefer to stay in a hotel, Liaison can arrange hotel accommodation in one of the many excellent hotels in the city. Alternatively you can rent an apartment for a longer stay.

Activities
|
Activities will be arranged and included in the General Language programs, and Business Language Programs, and can be organized for participants of other courses.
They will vary from course to course, depending on the season and availability, but could include the following:
- A tour of Montreal, including the Olympic Stadium, Biodome, and Old Port;
- Mont Tremblant and the Laurentians;
- Ottawa, the Nation's Capital;
- Kayaking;
- Skiing, snowboarding, ice skating;
- The Jazz festival;
- The Just for Laughs festival;
- Montreal Highlights (winter) festival.
